The Inspection Road Test
Inspections are based on external evaluation of the components inspected and a road test up to the local area speed limit for a distance up to five kilometres within the immediate vicinity of the inspection site. Unless a suitable "slippery road surface" is available to test 4WD operation, vehicles with a transmission not designed for full-time 4WD are not driven in 4WD to avoid the risk of damaging the vehicle drive train. Testing Limited Slip Systems and 4WD operation is not performed where there is a requirement for vehicle manufacturers special tooling, test equipment and/or procedure is required for accurate assessment.
Component Removal
The air cleaner element if accessible and spark plugs (if compression testing was performed) and wheels and brake drums (if a 'brake inspection' formed part of the inspection) may be removed to aid our evaluation and help us present an accurate report to assist your decision regarding the vehicle.
What We Check and How We Report
We will check only the items listed in the inspection sheet and possibly those requested by you at the time of the booking. We report only those defects detectable at the time of inspection. We summarise the report wth a tick in "Traffic Lights" giving our professional opinion of the overall condition of the vehicle and it's components for your guidance.
What We Don't or Can't Check and Report
- Engine automatic cold start device operation if the engine is hot.
- Neither oil and fuel consumption because it can only be assessed over a minimum of 500 kilometres nor the presence of additives in the oil designed to control excessive noise or oil burning.
- Cooling system performance (over heating) outside the parameters of normal inspection road test, nor internal cracks or corrosion in the system which are not detectable with known testing methods or by external evidence that may be present at the time of inspection.
- Additives designed to conceal internal or external coolant leaks from cracks or corrosion.
- The correct operation of optional 4 Wheel Drive and limited slip differentials components.
- Operation of CD and cassette players, alarms, immobilisers, cruise controls and performance of radios.
- Air-conditioner / climate control system for gas leaks or efficiency,
- We can't tell you about a defect if we can't see it or it is not there at the time of the inspection and road test. We do not dismantle or remove any part of the vehicle, other than those specified during the inspection performed. Items not checked will be marked in the report accordingly.
Please be advised: AANT Staff will use known methods of fault detection during the course of the inspection. However, due to the limitations on the detection and / or analysis of some faults (those that are internal and / or are not audible within the limitations of our road test), to purchase a vehicle without a warranty incurs significant risk that is undertaken by the purchaser. Neither the AANT, our staff, nor our agents who provided this report accept responsibility for defects found after the date of the report.
